There are many people, even in a relatively prosperous community like Farnham, who, through no fault of their own, find it a struggle to attain even the basic qualities of life that the rest of us take for granted.
They may have been handicapped from birth or from an unfortunate experience; it could be that they are young with worthy aspirations that they cannot afford to realise. Perhaps they are terminally ill with no friends or family to comfort them; maybe they are a struggling family who need a holiday break. They may simply find the burden of years too great to bear without help.
Of course there are local organisations which specialise in helping some of the above cases, Woodlarks, Bells piece, Treloars, Cheshire Homes, the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, to name but a few. Sadly, perhaps, they rely either entirely or substantially on charitable donations to achieve their ends. We see it as one of our prime tasks to support these organisations in their search for resources.

Families and individuals in need, who do not receive help from larger organisations, can be assisted directly by the Lions. We take the trouble to investigate their cases and, where appropriate, stretch out a helping hand.
It is not just money that we can contribute to the needy of our community. There is much organisational talent, and a little muscle, within the club, which can be brought to bear for a worthy cause.
A further objective of ours is the encouragement of local youth in healthy and worthwhile ventures. To this end we try to involve local schools in activities such as our Schools 5-a-side Football Tournament and the Lions International Peace Poster Competition.
