The Otter Wey Trail

Background

Models of Otters were chosen to celebrate the return of Otters to the River Wey near Farnham. The initiative involved local schools, community groups, artists and businesses all coming together to create a walking trail in and around Farnham. Farnham Lions are working with Farnham Town Council in this community project lead by Blooming Art. The first otters were placed around the town Trail on Monday 30th April and the balance followed soon after. The trail was run during May and June 2018, and encompassed the Farnham Town Walking Festival (20/5/2018 -3/6/2018). There is a map of the trail as it was still available here for those that missed it showing the location of each Otter, and the competition for all to identify the names of all the individual Otters and win a superb prize was the most entered trail competition in the towns history with literally hundreds of entries.

All the Otters, AND THERE ARE 44 OF THEM,  were decorated by a cross section of our community including local groups, charities, schools, community organisations and some by professional artists. They all then came together in a final “Romp” at the Farnham Carnival fayre, in Gostrey Meadow on 30th June 2018.  Then, on July 9th 2018 the Otters all found new homes at an auction held at Farnham Castle, with all proceeds going to the 2017-18 Mayor's chosen charities, The Woodlarks Centre and the Brightwells Gostrey Centre.

To see what they all looked like if you missed this wonderful community project go to the Otter Wey Auction Page to see all 44.
